Everyone’s saying the same thing about new photo of Neil Patrick Harris’ kids

 

A new family photo shared by Neil Patrick Harris has fans doing a double take, with many pointing out the same detail.

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka have spent years giving fans small glimpses into family life, from sharing how they welcomed their twins through surrogacy to documenting birthdays, holidays and milestones as their children grew up.

So, when the couple recently posted a new family photo on social media, it wasn’t long before the comments filled with people noticing the very same thing.

‘I see myself in each of them’

For many fans, it felt like only yesterday Harper Grace and Gideon Scott were babies.

The couple welcomed their twins in October 2010 with the help of a surrogate after deciding they both wanted the opportunity to become biological fathers.

Speaking to the late Barbara Walters, Harris explained that they fertilized two separate eggs using sperm from each father, hoping both pregnancies would be successful.

“We inserted one of my sperm and one of David’s sperm into two eggs, with the hope that they would both take, just because we both wanted to be dads biologically, and both took, miraculously,” the 53-year-old star of Doggie Howser, M.D. said in 2014.

Although each man is the biological father of one of the twins, Harris has said he has no desire to learn which child is biologically his.

“It’s so funny. I see myself in each of them at different times,” he told Walters.

‘Put the ‘n’ and ‘d’ in ‘husband’

A few years later, after New York legalized same-sex marriage, the longtime couple got engaged before marrying in a private ceremony in Italy in 2014.

Guess what?  David Burtka and I got married over the weekend. In Italy. Yup, we put the ‘n’ and ‘d’ in ‘husband,’” Harris announced in a post shared on X.

Reflecting on that decision during an appearance on The View, Harris explained that becoming husbands was especially meaningful once Harper and Gideon were old enough to ask questions about their family.

“I think when our kids got to the age when they were having reasonable conversations where they’re asking lots of ‘why’ questions, then it seemed important to be able to have a real clear-cut identity of who their daddy is – that he’s my husband, it was easier than partner or boyfriend,” the star of How I Met Your Mother said, per People.

‘What would Doogie do?’

Family life has remained central to Harris and Burtka’s social media over the years, but in May the spotlight shifted to Harper and Gideon.

The twins joined their fathers at Family Equality’s gala in New York City, where Harris and Burtka received the Luminary Award in recognition of their visibility, advocacy and support for LGBTQ+ families.

Presenting the honor were Elton John and David Furnish, but it was the couple’s children who left a lasting impression.

According to Entertainment Tonight, the teenagers delivered a heartfelt tribute sprinkled with plenty of jokes.

“We had twice the dad jokes, and zero the improvement,” Gideon quipped.

Harper followed with one of her own.

“Whenever I’m confused or doubting myself, papa just turns to me and repeats the family motto: ‘What would Doogie do?’”

New family photo shocks fans

Now another family photo has people talking again.

Standing between their fathers, Harper and Gideon look worlds away from the newborns fans first met more than a decade ago.

The twins, who turn 16 this year, prompted countless comments from followers amazed at how quickly the years have passed.

“Omg am I the only one who thought they were still toddlers? Time sure flies. Beautiful family!” one fan wrote, while a second shared: “How is this even possible? That they are bigger than the both of you? So damn beautiful all of you.”

The conversation soon shifted from how much the twins had grown to who they looked most like.

“What a beautiful family and when you look at both children they look like both their dads so they definitely could belong to either.”

“Both kids look like both dad’s…you can’t change my mind,” wrote a third, while another added, “no DNA test needed. she looks like a girl version of Neil, and the boy looks exactly like his partner. Beautiful family.”
