According to a British study conducted by researchers at the University of Birmingham, this Greek-origin girl's name, given all over the world, is the most harmonious in the world. Its sound, musicality, and history partly explain its global success.

This is, at least, the result of a study led by cognitive linguist Bodo Winter, a researcher at the University of Birmingham, and published last autumn by the British website  My 1st Years.

Researchers presented approximately one hundred of the most popular female first names to a panel of volunteers. These volunteers listened attentively to each name before the scientists meticulously analyzed their emotional reactions. Several specific criteria were considered: sound, musicality, rhythm, phonetic balance, but above all, the emotional impact on the listeners.

And it is precisely on this emotional level that this first name stood out. The linguist explains that the most popular first names “  are those that generate the most positive emotions when spoken aloud  .” And the winning name is none other than Sophia.
