Un consiglio casalingo per pulire il ferro da stiro e farlo tornare come nuovo.

You've probably experienced a bit of panic: you iron your clothes and then... an unsightly stain appears on the fabric. Or worse, the iron gets stuck, as if it's decided to bite into your favorite blouse. You think the iron needs replacing and shove it away in the back of the closet. Yet, the solution is often much simpler, and it might already be in your kitchen.

Why does the iron make clothes dirty?

The iron's soleplate is in direct contact with the fabric. Over time, it accumulates residue (starch, fibers, deposits) and brown stains. The result: the iron no longer glides smoothly, heats unevenly, and can leave streaks. Regular cleaning saves time on ironing, preserves your clothes, and prolongs the life of the appliance.

Before you begin, remember this fundamental rule: always unplug the iron and let it cool. It should still be slightly warm, but never hot to the touch.

2-3 tablespoons of baking soda
A little water
A soft cloth (microfiber) or paper towel
Method:
Mix the baking soda with a little water until you get a thick paste.
Apply the paste to the soleplate, paying particular attention to stained areas.
Leave it to act for 5-10 minutes.
Wipe gently with a soft cloth.
Finally, use a slightly damp cloth to remove any residue and dry.
Tip: To check if the soleplate is perfectly clean, pass the hot iron over an old, clean cloth. Cleaning a Teflon soleplate: gentle cleaning with white vinegar

Teflon scratches easily. Therefore, avoid powders and opt for a gentle method using white vinegar.

What you'll need:
White vinegar
A cotton ball or very soft cloth
A damp cloth for rinsing
Procedure:
Dip the cloth in white vinegar. Gently rub the plate with even strokes.
Repeat if necessary for more stubborn stains.
Wipe with a damp cloth to rinse, then dry thoroughly.

Extra tip: If the smell bothers you, air out the room for a few minutes; it will quickly disappear.

Cleaning a steel sole: baking paper and fine salt

Steel is more durable, but it can still show signs of wear. Salt acts as a gentle cleaner.
